Nutrition and Care

Nutrition: Your Bordeaux should be fed high quality dog food. We feed Taste of the wild. It is one of the better grain free feeds. We also feed some raw mix in. This helps to keep their coats looking shinny. They need lots of clean fresh water. We also recommend good Vitamin supplements such as NuVet. The Bordeaux loves to eat so be careful not to over feed. Over feeding your Dog can cause Hip Dysplasia or other health issues. The Bordeaux should be lean and in AKC standards. Also NO stairs!!!!! Puppies bones are developing the do not need stairs.

Exercise: If you are looking for a Dog to take on long hikes or go jogging with you the Bordeaux is NOT the Dog for you! Their running consist of 10 to 15 minutes and they are DONE! They get hot VERY quickly do NOT cool off easily nor quickly. Their breathing is short and loud due to being Brachycephalic- short nosed.

Grooming: The wrinkles on this breed are cute. However yeast, dirt and odor get caught in the folds. So it is important to keep the wrinkles clean and bath regularly. Your Vet can recommend a Dog shampoo that is very good to use for this. Keeping their ears cleaned out is very important. Dirty ears can cause mites and infections. Their ears can get smelly to if you do not keep them clean. Keeping their paw nails trimmed is a must. We use a Dremle. Training your puppy to submit while you use a Dremle running softly will later pay off. You will not have to worry about your Dog running from you when it is time for their Pedicure!                                                          Socialization: This is a must for any pet animal. The Bordeaux is a strong willed breed. Lots of early socialization is need as well as training. YouTube has many videos on how to work with your puppy to leash train and other training needed. ( However, make sure your puppy is immunized appropriate for their age. Dog parks are famous for Parvo and other nasty stuff. So be careful.
